The name 'Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate' embraces the mana (respect) of Sir Edmund Hillary - our most famous New Zealander.

When the Board approached Sir Ed asking permission to use his name for our collegiate. They said 'it would be a great priviledge if he permitted his name to be used'. Sir Ed's reply was 'that is was a priviledge that we wanted his name for the collegiate.

Our logo has strong links with the Pacific. The conch shell in the centre calls all members of our school community together to strive 'towards new horizons' - just as it has summoned generations of Pacific peoples together in the past. The circular logo includes all points of the compass, where many cultures come together from different directions to be celebrated as valued members of the community.

The logo has been incorporated into the layout and architecture of the Collegiate. At the hub of the school is a large circular courtyard that symbolises a fishhook and 'anchors' the Collegiate. The Junior and Middle school buildings are shaped like waka(canoes) that point toward the Pacific where they were originally launched in voyages of exploration and discovery.

The colours of the logo represent colours of the 3 school uniforms, gold Junior School; Blue Middle School and Maroon Senior School.
